Ocean freight rate reference in week 33:

Following rate reference in week 33.

  • Asia main ports to USAWC USD 1100~13000 per 40GP; to USAEC USD 13000~17000 per 40GP;
  • Asia main ports for IPI points of USA is USD 20000~22000 per 40GP;
  • Asia main ports to Europe main ports and W. Med USD 17000~18000 per 40GP;
  • Asia main ports to WCSA USD 8500~9500 per 40GP; to ECSA USD 8500~9500 per 40GP.

Please note above rate is only for reference, carriers might only give space for higher rate, which will be from USD 22,000~29,500 per 40GP for different destinations.

Carriers announced another round of GRI after August 15th and some carriers such as HPL even announced port congestion surcharge of USD 1850/40’ after August 15th. Just when everybody is expecting the vaccines will control the Covid-19 and relieve the lock-downs around the world, higher transmissible Delta variant force USA, China and Southeast countries to adopt lock downs again. According to latest research, Delta variant can cause more infections and spread faster than old virus even in highly vaccinated country like USA. Consequently, port congestions, shortage of containers and unreliable schedule of carriers will last more longer than expected because restrictions of human distance would reduce the man powers in ports and rail ramps. We can expect the ocean freight rate will keep in high ground caused by the chain of reactions of Covid-19 and imbalance of transportation.
