From July, an average of 8,000 cases are reported every day in Vietnam. Facing a shortage of workers, the dockside service has been declined, and many ships are waiting in line.

Cat Lai Port in HCM City has temporarily suspended receipt of goods, such as extra-long, extra-heavy, oversized, and overloaded cargoes, are temporary suspension of receipt as from August 5th. Refrigerated goods transshipment will be temporarily hold until August 16th.

The port authority also asks carriers to send the estimated the volume of import containers and empty containers in the next two weeks so the port can arrange the yard in advance.

Alternative option for sea transportation, Maersk launches intercontinental train service.

Maersk has arranged the first cargo train service from Vietnam to Europe, which loaded with 23 40-feet containers with Decathlon products. The train left the Vietnam capital Hanoi and is heading towards Zhengzhou, China.

From Zhengzhou, the train will continue the service for Liège city in Belgium. The French cities Dourges and Rouvignies constitute the final destinations, where the cargoes will be transloaded by trucks, by the end of August.

“The new service is not only achieved reliable lead times but also provide our customers with improved visibility, and is driving synergies between intermodal and rail transport, adding resilience and great value for the whole supply chain.”
said by Philippe Dunand, Maersk Global Account Director for Decathlon.

Despite the empty container shortage, limited space in the warehouse, and ocean capacity not meeting the demand at all in these days, Maersk makes constant efforts to fulfill the customer’ needs.
