In the freight forwarding industry, importing cargo is more than booking a vessel or flight. As Bluetooth devices, Wi-Fi products, smart home appliances, and IoT devices become more common, more shipments need to meet Taiwan’s import regulations before they can clear customs smoothly.

Before importing goods, it is important to check whether the product has wireless functions, the required certifications, or built-in lithium batteries. Preparing these details in advance can help avoid customs delays and reduce the risk of missing documents. A freight forwarder’s job is not only to move cargo but also to help customers prepare for a smooth import process.

If a product has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, NFC, RFID, wireless remote control, or other radio frequency (RF) functions, here are a few things to check before importing into Taiwan.

1. NCC Certification

Most products with wireless functions must meet the requirements of Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC).

Common products include:

•  Bluetooth earphones

•  Wi-Fi routers

•  Smartwatches

•  Smart home devices

•  Wireless keyboards and mice

•  Drone controllers

•  IoT devices

•  Wireless cameras

Before shipment, make sure:

•  The product already has an NCC certification and NCC ID, or

•  The importer will apply for the certification.

•  NCC documents are available if customs requests them.

2. Import Approval

If the product does not have the required NCC certification, it may:

•  Be delayed at customs.

•  Require additional documents.

•  Need a special import application, depending on the product and its purpose.

3. Other Regulations

Some products may also need to meet other Taiwan regulations, such as:

•  BSMI: For some electrical and electronic products.

•  International Trade Administration: Some products may need import approval.

•  Ministry of Environment: Some electronic products may have recycling or environmental requirements.

Checking these requirements before shipping can help avoid customs problems and make the import process faster and smoother.
