As Taiwan's largest commercial port and an Asian shipping hub, the Kaohsiung Port's seventh container center is known for its impressive size and advanced features. With a water depth of -18 meters and a total length of 2,415 meters, it boasts the largest container terminal in the country. This state-of-the-art facility can simultaneously accommodate up to four 24,000 TEU supercontainer vessels, making it a crucial hub for international trade.
Its cutting-edge technology and innovative systems set the seventh container center apart. It is equipped with the nation's first 25-row remote-controlled (Re-mote) unmanned bridge cranes, fully automated unmanned gate cranes, and intelligent customs gate systems. These advanced features streamline operations and ensure efficient and secure handling of cargo. Furthermore, the center incorporates independent 5G systems, fiber optics, and IoT communication networks, providing seamless connectivity throughout the facility.
Not only is the seventh container center technologically advanced, but it also prioritizes sustainability and environmental responsibility. It operates with Evergreen Marine Corporation's intelligent container yard operating system (TOS) and real-time electricity monitoring system, optimizing energy usage and reducing carbon footprint. By embracing artificial intelligence (AI) and state-of-the-art automation, the port operations are highly efficient, making it a pioneer in the industry.
The global outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 underscored the importance of digitization and automation in port operations. Traditional manual labor-intensive processes faced significant challenges during the pandemic, leading to delays and congestion. Recognizing the need for a more resilient and efficient operating model, the Kaohsiung Port Authority and Evergreen Marine Corporation invested NT$40.95 billion to build Taiwan's first "fully automated container base." This forward-thinking initiative aims to create a modern and future-proof operating environment, ensuring the long-term development and competitiveness of the port.
In addition to its technological advancements, the Kaohsiung Port plays a crucial role in global transshipment. Strategically aligned with major shipping routes and energy-saving vessel practices, it is a vital link between the Americas, Asia, and Europe. By adopting advanced operational models and continuously improving operational efficiency, the port aims to enhance its competitiveness on a global scale. Promoting sustainable practices and reducing energy consumption, it strives to set new standards for the shipping industry and elevate the Kaohsiung Port to new heights.
