Cybersecurity should be part of everyday life

24 Aug 2023

The supply chain is an integral part of the global economy, responsible for moving goods and services from the supplier to the final consumer. However, the supply chain also faces many risks, one of which is cyber attacks. Regardless of the industry, the supply chain is a complex chain that connects raw material suppliers, manufacturers, international logistics providers, distributors and final consumers. This critical economic structure is often the target of cyberattacks. In recent years, people have become aware of the risks of the current cyber environment, but there is still a clear gap between cybersecurity knowledge and action. A focus on cybersecurity is essential to protect supply chains from cyberattacks. Just as we have learned to deal with new coronaviruses and adapted to them as the "new normal," Cybersecurity should be part of everyday life.

Cyberattacks can cause significant damage to the supply chain, thereby affecting the entire economy. Attackers can disrupt the supply chain by hacking into suppliers' systems to steal trade secrets or personal information, or by disrupting transportation and logistics systems. This can lead to production delays, increased costs and reduced customer satisfaction. Businesses should strengthen their cyber security measures by using strong passwords and changing them regularly. Passwords should be chosen to be strong, avoiding information that can be easily guessed, and changed regularly for added security. As well as installing updated firewalls and security software to protect systems from malicious attacks, and ensuring that firewall and security software definition files are updated in a timely manner. Human Factor is one of the biggest vulnerabilities in organization's cybersecurity defenses. Employees are part of the supply chain and should receive appropriate cybersecurity training on how to recognize phishing emails, malware, and other cyber threats to protect their personal information. In the event of a cyberattack, there should be an emergency plan and countermeasures in place to minimize losses and quickly resume normal operations.

The threat of cyber attacks to the supply chain cannot be ignored, as they can also be destructive, directly affecting the operation of the supply chain. For example, they can attack the logistics system to prevent goods from arriving on time, leading to production delays and customer complaints. They can also sabotage suppliers' production facilities, causing production lines to shut down and further affecting the operation of the entire supply chain. These attacks not only cause direct losses to businesses, but also have an indirect negative impact on the economy as a whole. The smooth functioning of the supply chain is critical to ensuring that products reach the market quickly to meet consumer demand. Any disruption in the supply chain will have an impact on market supply and product prices, which in turn will adversely affect the economy as a whole. In order to protect the integrity and stability of the supply chain, a full range of cybersecurity measures are required. Security mechanisms should be in place for all parts of the supply chain, and backup and recovery mechanisms should be established for the supply chain. Even in the event of an attack, organizations should be able to restore the supply chain in a timely manner.
