COP27 officially opens the era of green shipping

From November 6 to 18, 2022, heads of countries from all over the world are gathering in Sharm El-Sheikh, a city at the southern tip of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, to participate in the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) hosted by the Egyptian government. This is the first time in the post-pandemic era, global leaders are gathering to discuss the issue of global climate change. The meeting covers three international conventions, including the 27th meeting of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the 17th meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP17) and the 4th meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA4). The goal of the meeting is to accelerate, scale up and implement the commitments through the right mechanisms in accordance with the Paris Agreement and the Glasgow Climate Pact, specifically promoting climate mitigation, adaptation action, climate finance, equitable transition and even promoting global cooperation. related work.

 

As the shipping industry, which accounts for 3% of the world's total carbon emissions, is naturally the focus of attention at COP27. According to the official website of the Federal Maritime Commission, the Green Shipping Challenge was launched on November 7 by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and US President Biden's climate special envoy John Kerry during the COP27 World Leaders Summit. The two governments jointly presented more than 40 major announcements on issues related to countries, ports and companies, the renewal of older ships, the expansion of low- or zero-emission fuels, and policies to help promote the adoption of next-generation ships, including:
