I used to work in a customs clearance company, it was relative to my current job but I want to take a few second to share the procedure of import customs clearance in Taiwan with every one of my connection.
First of all, the consignee must declare within 15 days when the cargo arrives at the destination or port of discharge with customs then EDI linkup with Customs Administration to check if the cargo and the needed documents(BL, INV, PAK...etc) match or not.
After the EDI link up, the three different results show up, C1, C2, and C3. C1 means no need to verify the documents and the cargos, the consignee can arrange to deliver goods after the duty and vat were paid. As for C2, custom will require to review the documents may be the value of the goods, is it lower than the market condition? or need to apply for the correct HS code? the weight or the quantity also might be reviewed. The last one is C3, besides the documents that need to be verified. On top of that, customs will require to open the package of the cargos, whether it packs by carton, wooden case, pallet, and container to inspect is it match with the document? or is there any undeclared item? or anything relate to smugglings?
To sum up, to ensure the procedure smooth, checking with your supplier detailly for the correct HS code, value of the goods, the way of package material you use, certification document that apply for the specific product, and do not place any content excludes the order in case the incorrect declare resulting in penalty and the record of import and export.
