Forever MarilynWith the two-story-building height (25 feet), and the weight 36,000 pounds (around 16,000 kg), it cost 5 million dollars to build the giant Monroe statue which was created by American artist Seward Johnson.

When Forever Marilyn was displayed in downtown Chicago US, it received warm welcomes from tourists. You can see many tourists were taking photos next by Marilyn Monroe’s feet day and night. The statue of Monroe became the most eye-catching sight in Chicago. The statue was made from stainless steel and aluminum, with the Monroe’s shy expression, the veins on the leg, the wrinkles of the dress, even the toe nail polish, exposed underwear, all details were restored according to the actual size of the real person. Every detail aimed for excellence.

The Monroe statue attracted many people and they were able to touch the statue. With the large size of the statue, people can easily walk through under Monroe’s dress and make fun of Monroe’s underwear. However, some travel websites rated it as “the worst public art in the world”, mentioning that it only attracts people to see under the dress. The statue was destroyed by tourists many times. Due to the controversy, the statue which was built with huge money was tore down less than a year after it was placed in Chicago.

The statue was created in 2011 and has been displayed in many cities in US and AU, and is currently moved to Palm Springs, California. The artist, Seward Johnson passed away in March 2020 at the age of 89. TGL and its agent acted as the freight forwarder for the giant Monroe statue from the United States to Dalian, China. The statue of Monroe weighs 36,000 pounds and is more than 25 feet tall (7.62 meters). The entire statue was divided into four parts, above Monroe’s belly, the front of the dress, the back of the dress, and the legs for transportation. After the open top containers of tall items were shipped from the United States to China by sea, the art team members spent three days using cranes to assemble and paint them.

This expensive statue had to be taken care carefully during the entire transportation. It is different from the ordinary goods. The high value and bulky artwork need extremely high attention over hundreds of processes and storage issue. The details for the packaging, special boxes, fillers, and a series of safety measures to ensure zero accidents during transportation.
